This high school co-op class provides students with a practical understanding of basic human anatomy and personal health, along with hands-on training in first aid and CPR. Students will learn how the body functions, how to respond to common injuries and emergencies, and how to act confidently in crisis situations. This class will also assist students with exploring health care related career options.

The class also encourages students to view health, wellness, and caring for others through a Biblical worldview, emphasizing responsibility, compassion, and wise decision-making. By the end of the class, students will be better prepared as young adults to care for themselves and serve those around them with knowledge and confidence.

English Literature (Ed) $20

Teacher: Kimberly Wyse

High School English - American Literature

This will be a full-credit high school English class. It will require a significant amount of reading at home and class discussion is expected. The best English classes are when students are ready to talk about what they've read! Essentially, students will read one book a month, plus one over Christmas break. In addition, students will be asked to write a literary analysis of the novels. The class will include learning MLA documentation style and how to write and analyze literature for formal academic papers. Please note, every book is family-friendly, but some are secular. We will cover them from a Christian perspective. The content of the books themselves does require that your student is ready for them. At the start of each book, I will send an email to parents to let them know what topics they may want to address at home. Each student will need to purchase the exact book we'll be using in class so page numbers match up during class discussions.

Of Mice and Men — John Steinbeck — ISBN 9780140177398
To Kill a Mockingbird — Harper Lee — ISBN 9780061120084
Peace Like a River — Leif Enger — ISBN 9780802139252

The Hiding Place — Corrie ten Boom — ISBN 9780553256697
Warriors Don’t Cry — Melba Pattillo Beals — ISBN 9780671866396
The Scarlet Letter — Nathaniel Hawthorne — ISBN 9780142437261
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn — Mark Twain — ISBN 9780486280615

Students will need a dedicated 3-ring binder with loose leaf paper for notes and handouts, plus pens/pencils. They may also want dividers. A $20/student fee will cover the cost of additional supplies and copies.

Art (Arts)

Teacher: Mallory Stamm

This is a specialized drawing class for older students who want to strengthen their skills and knowledge in drawing. We will go over some classical techniques as well as modern techniques. They will learn things like perspective, portraits, and still life drawings!

Students will need to purchase supplies before co-op begins and bring them to class every week.

Guitar (Arts)

Teacher: Zachariah Houk

We will be growing our understanding of the basics and fundamentals of Guitar, building technical ability upon a foundational understanding of music theory as it applies to the guitar. We will be pulling from a number of reference materials and providing handouts as needed, so there will be no need for the students to purchase any books.

Students will build skills in reading music in both traditional and tablature forms as well as chords. We’ll be building technical ability through a number of muscle memory exercises and learning to play progressively more difficult songs. Students will be encouraged to study various styles of guitar to find what fits them best, and will be encouraged to pick music for themselves that they would like to learn. Any music being provided will be either Christian contemporary or worship.

Game & Gab (Ed) $15

Teacher: Tori Kimble

Come and enjoy a time of fun and fellowship. Playing games is a great way to build character, connect with friends and learn more about others and ourselves. In this class we will utilize games of all kinds: board games, card games, games of challenge and skill, trivia games and any other types we can think of. While we play we will focus on good sportsmanship and treating each other respectfully. We may also decide to add snacks to our time. If so, we will have a sign up sheet so everyone can share that load.

Choir (Arts)

Teacher: Bethany Riegsecker

Students will learn to sing in a group choral setting, learning singing technique, music literacy, harmony singing, performance etiquette, and more! Students will have the opportunity to perform for peers and parents at the end of each semester. Let’s praise Jesus together!

Musical Theater (Arts)

Teacher/Director: Bethany Riegsecker, Assistant Director Caris Croy, Choreographer Laura VanBuhler, Costume Coordinator Robin Faehnle, Set design Mallory Stamm

Students from grades 7-12 will audition for, rehearse, and perform a musical together. This class will take place after a brief lunch/meeting period and will end at 1:30. During class time, we will organize props and costumes, create sets, run lines, learn blocking, sing music, and dance choreography. No matter your role in the musical, there will be plenty to participate in from learning theater procedures, backstage work, stage crew, set building, lighting and sound engineering, acting, costumes, props, dancing, and singing. Those who sign up for this class can choose to audition or just sign up to be a part of one of our crews. If you do not get assigned a role or you have been assigned to the musical's chorus, you will have the opportunity to be on one or two crews. There will be a place on your audition form to indicate the crews you are interested in helping with so you can get the most out of our theater time together. Join us for our first ever CLAE musical!
